About Book

Urban planning answers questions about how people will live, work and play in a given area and thus, guides orderly development in urban, suburban and rural areas. It is concerned with research and analysis, strategic thinking, engineering architecture, urban design, public consultation, policy recommendations, implementation and management. Urban design is an inter-disciplinary subject that utilizes elements of many built environment professions, including urban planning, landscape architecture, civil and municipal engineering. Urban planning requires analysis of the natural, visual, and physical form of cities as well as assessment of the political, social, and economic character of a city. Consequently, it provides a holistic and multidisciplinary view that combines world class technical competencies with vast experience in urban development strategies and planning that allow cities to grow and flourish. This book focuses on the intersections between architecture, landscape architecture, planning and geography. It deals with optimal operational strategies, fluid planning, landscape ecology practices, spatial statistics, horizontal or vertical planning, urban energy planning, sustainable urban development and system planning. The book broadly outlines the global perspectives on urban planning followed by emergence and nature of urban planning. An overview of urban planning instruments follows with emphasis on currents approaches being applied and their possible impact addressing the daunting urbanization challenges. Some of the diverse topics covered in this book address the varied branches that fall under this category. This book is meant for who are looking for an elaborate reference on urban planning.
